This historic home, in the "Silk Stocking
Row" of Amarillo was built in 1912 by lumber merchant
H.W. Galbraith for his wife Kate. This craftsman style
home sits on a double lot with several large pecan trees shading
the backyard. In 1926 Mr. Galbraith commissioned a large
order of mahogany from the Philippines and hired architect Guy
Carlander to oversee the remodeling of the home. The project
transformed the home into a beautiful show home with 14" crown
molding, wood trimmed window casings, baseboards and a mahogany
paneled library. The home features more than 40 solid
wood doors, all at least 2 ½" thick.
The front balcony
is a relaxing space for coffee in the morning or sitting in the
comfortable rockers and enjoying a soft evening breeze. The
second floor has 4 bedrooms, all with individual private baths
and a romantic suite above the old Carriage House.
Your
stay or hosted event will be a wonderful and lasting memory.
